Ultimately, the best students will discover the "teacher within them." When this is accomplished, our students have learned the meaning of "Union." At this point, the student is seriously dedicated to his or her personal practice. Then, the serious questions will come, because an advanced student of Yoga will experience self-realization and spiritual growth.
If the questions do not come to you, do not worry about it. If a teacher constantly chatters, with free advice, no one will listen, because it is free. Loving parents also make this mistake, because they want to protect their children, but free advice is often ignored. Yoga teachers are no different. Keep your explanations simple and show your students the way - when they are ready.

Purpose of Raja Yoga
Raja Yoga, formed into a definite system by patanjali 5,000 years ago, concerns itself primarily with the stilling of the mind to allow for Cosmic openness. This is achieved by sitting in a cross-legged position repeating a mantra, a word or words having spiritual power. This can be as simple as the word "Om", through the more complex "Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna, Krishna, Hare Hare" to the Guyatri mantra, which is several lines long. Should an Obese Person Become a Yoga Teacher?
...oga teachers, make gradual changes that result in weight control. These are not the changes of instant gratification that we are so familiar with.
We are not talking about, Losing 30 pounds in 30 days. The many Yo-Yo diets and weight loss pills can make those promises, but at what cost to your overall health? Life endangering weight loss products are a waste of money and an insult to your intelligence.
Then again, teaching most people to drink more water, eat more fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and whole grains is not as easy as showing them the new ultimate diet pill. The Yogic diet has been around for thousands of years, so its old news. Remember the saying, Out with the old, and in with the new?
People fall for the new and improved, more than old and proven methods, until the hard data comes in. ...more
